I'd seen this before, but it never caught my attention quite like it did when A and I were riding through the fields and farmlands of Pennsylvania.
They looked like pale yellow moths, but they may have been some type of butterfly. They were not large, no larger than an inch to an inch and a half across.
They were circling, usually over a wildflower, though since the fields were covered with flowers, it was hard to tell if they were attached to a single flower or not.
But they would circle and chase each other, or so it seemed. But in addition to being offset as they chased each other, they were also offset in altitude, creating the effect that they were attached and hanging on a string that was being "stirred" from above. A glass of ice tea being stirred, but with the butterflies replacing the ice tea and no glass. Or a little miniature tornado fluttering in a spiral, circling around, stretching up and then compressing down.
No moral to the story, no photo to attach, just a little vision...
